Planet Protectors School Kit
Encourage your students to become Planet Protectors!
WSN has recently produced the fun, interactive Planet Protectors Education
Program, and it is now available to schools.
Planet Protectors is an integrated program for primary school aged children,
specifically targeting Stages 1 to 3 of the NSW Primary Schools' Curriculum.
It is designed to assist waste educators and school teachers to educate
students on sustainable waste management principles and to influence families
and the broader community.
The program is based on the Waste Hierarchy:
- Avoidance - including action to reduce the amount of waste generated.
- Resource Recovery - including reuse, reprocessing, recycling and energy recovery.
- Disposal - managing all options in the most environmentally responsible manner.
Planet Protectors includes a range of resources that can be integrated into lesson plans, including:
- Teacher's Guide
- Information Sheets
- Activity Sheets
- Video and DVD - View sample (Flash, 1.8MB)
Students and teachers can read the Information Sheets to provide background information that will help them complete the Activity Sheets. These materials have been provided in black and white so that they can be easily copied and coloured-in.
The resources are generic, and council educators and teachers may include their own local information on recycling, waste and other services when working with school groups.
Given the dynamic nature and continuous improvements in the resource recovery and recycling industries, every attempt will be made to ensure all information is updated and relevant. When updates and additions are made to the program, these are provided free of charge to those who have purchased a Planet Protectors kit. The amended or added pages can be inserted directly into the folder provided.
The package has been designed to target various syllabus outcomes identified in the NSW Primary Schools' Curriculum, making it a worthwhile addition to any school's program.
