25,000 Tonnes Milestone for Moruya Recycling Centre
14 May 2009
Leading recycling company WSN Environmental Solutions has processed the
25,000th tonne of recyclables at its Moruya Resource Recovery Centre and
has praised local residents for their efforts to recycle their bottles,
cans and containers.
WSN Environmental Solutions CEO Ken Kanofski said the 25,000 tonne milestone
was a great achievement and one that residents of the far South Coast can
be proud of.
"We would like to thank the overwhelming majority of residents in
the Eurobodalla and Bega Valley Shires for being responsible and putting
their bottles, cans and containers in the right bin," Mr Kanofski
said.
"Local residents are doing their bit for their environment by helping
WSN turn waste into resource."
The Moruya Materials Recycling Facility (MRF) started operating in December
2005 along with a new kerbside recycling service in the Eurobodalla Shire
and recycling rates have almost tripled as a result.
"WSN plans to maintain a long-term presence on the far South Coast
and we look forward to continuing our productive relationship with the
local community," Mr Kanofski said.
Mr Kanofski also reminded residents to be vigilant and continue their responsible
approach to recycling all year round.
"We simply ask residents to keep putting their bottles, cans and containers
in the recycling bin, particularly during the holiday season when volumes
rise," Mr Kanofski said.
"By putting recyclables in the right bin and not contaminating them
with food or kitchen scraps, residents can ensure the maximum amount of
plastic, metal and paper is recycled and not sent to landfill."
The recovered resources are re-used, with cardboard re-processed into new
boxes and packaging, while plastic containers are exported to manufacture
a range of new products.
Steel and aluminium are sold to scrap metal recyclers and used by the manufacturing
sector to make new products.
