Winners Announced for 2008-2009 Grass Roots Sponsorship Program


WSN Environmental Solutions' Grass Roots Sponsorship Program has once again provided valuable funding for a range of community-led projects that will provide a tangible benefit to the local community and the environment.

We received 53 applications this year, and after a difficult judging process, we chose 17 outstanding winners. The following projects are receiving Grass Roots funding this year:


Canterbury area:

  • Canterbury Bankstown Migrant Resource Centre (CBMRC)'s "Green Media" project
  • Narwee Public School's "Seed Sowing, Green Growing" project
  • Canterbury Public School's "Waste Watchers" project

Eurobodalla Shire area:
  • Carroll College's "Reduce/Recycle and Reuse" project
  • St Peter's Anglican College's "Integrated K-12 School Based Permaculture System" project

Fairfield area:
  • Luis Lopez's "Recycle Gang" project

Gosford area:
  • TAFE Hunter Institute's "Growing Up Green" project

Hurstville area:
  • Penshurst Public School's "Native Peace Garden" project

Lane Cove area:
  • Lane Cove West Public School's School Vegetable Garden project

Manly area:
  • Stella Maris Catholic Girls High School's "Waste Wise Playground" and Composting project
  • Royal Far West School's "Eco Classroom" project

Marrickville area:
  • Figureight Inc's "Reduce-Reuse-Recycle" project

Parramatta area:
  • Rydalmere East Public School's "Stop Our Gardens Clogging Up The Drains!" project
  • Wesley E-Recycling's "KeyLessons" project

Rockdale area:
  • Kingsgrove Public School's Worm Farm project

Sutherland area:
  • Gymea Community Aid & Information Service (GCAIS)'s "Environmental Sustainability Project for English Language Students"
  • St Francis de Sales School's "Sustaining a Closed Loop: A Learning Experience" project

Since the program was launched in July 2005, we have sponsored over 60 community sustainability projects, and we look forward to seeing the results of the 17 creative and inspirational projects supported this year. To see the positive and practical outcomes of last year's sponsored projects,
