Mixed Waste Disposal
We operate three highly engineered landfills
at Belrose,
Eastern
Creek, and Lucas
Heights,
including a bioreactor landfill at Eastern
Creek.
The landfill operated at the site formerly
known as Jacks Gully was closed 6 July 2008.
Waste is delivered to landfills from
our transfer stations, directly from kerbside collections or from householders
and businesses.
Our landfill operations are carefully designed to reduce the amount of
space used, maximise the operational lifetime of our landfills, and minimise
environmental and social impacts.
Biogas produced as the waste breaks down is collected and used to generate
green electricity that is returned to the grid. Across our sites we have
enough installed capacity to power up to 40,000 homes.
